Start of week #2!

I can't believe the trip is almost halfway over!  I honestly thought that by this point I would be extremely homesick and ready to be back but I am not ready to leave yet!  I do miss my friends and family terribly, but I know I will see them soon.  Here is how week 2 is going so far!

Monday:  I began the day with getting up and going to Leicester Square in search for cheap tickets for Phantom of the Opera.  We ended up finding some for Wednesday night (tonight) instead of Monday so we were happy about that!  We also had our first test on Monday and I got an A!  I didn't think I did as well as I actually did, so that was exciting.  After class we ate dinner in the cafeteria then decided we wanted something sweet.  I know you probably think all I do is talk about food, but we get kinda desperate around here.  It's amazing how much smaller the portion sizes are here in the main meals so that always gives us an excuse to splurge!  Holly, Meg and I decided to go back to Harrods to Krispy Kreme.  We finally got there after a tube ride and trekking through the rain, only to find that they had CLOSED KRISPY KREME!!! We were devastated.  Meg and I had been there only about a week before and during that week apparently they had closed.  So I then remembered a Krispy Kreme I discovered while shopping on Saturday and we trekked all the way to Oxford Street to find it.  I think we worked off every bite of the doughnuts we ate that night!  It was definitely well worth it.

Tuesday:  Class field trip to Bath!  Bath is a nice town located about 1.5 hours away from London.  We took a train and spent the day there.  I didn't know that Bath was an actual town, I thought it was just another tourist attraction!  I was pleasantly surprised.  After touring the Roman Baths, we toured a British home that modeled what one would look like many years ago.  It was very interesting and we were able to recognize a lot of the decorative elements we have been learning in our class!  After that, we went to the fashion museum in Bath.  We saw Captain Jack Sparrow's actual costume, and they had a special wedding dress exhibit for the Royal Wedding year!  I really enjoyed this.  Here are some pictures from the day!

Wednesday:  Today we went to the Victoria & Albert Museum!  This museum encompasses basically everything that our class is composed of.  We went on a scavenger hunt to find different decorative elements in certain pieces of furniture or rooms and had to record them.  This museum is huge!  We really enjoyed looking around and being able to apply what we have learned.  Here are some pics and examples of what we have been learning!

LOVE this chandelier.  Chelsea and Martha Kate....can we please get one of these for our house??

The Museum was covered with beautiful marble!

This is an example of pargework, basically fancy plastered ceilings.

"Putti" is the term for these babies used in paintings and in decoration.

Neat instruments hanging from the ceiling...they were real smushed instruments!

Beautiful room with S and C scrolls, bellflowers, wainscoting, and pargework.

Chippendale Furniture

My delicious blueberry muffin I had for breakfast/lunch today!  (It was just as good as it looks!)

We walked around Kensington, the area where the museum was located, and saw beautiful apartments.  This is a very wealthy area.

That sums up the past few days!  Tonight we are going to see Phantom of the Opera and I absolutely can't wait!  We are leaving for a weekend trip to Scotland tomorrow too so hopefully I will be able to blog sometime when I get back!  See you soon!
